What Is Colloidal Silver and What Are Its Benefits

Have you ever heard of colloidal silver? If you have just heard of it in passing, do you know really what it is and what its benefits are?

What is Colloidal Silver?

According to webMD,

“Colloidal silver is a mineral. Despite promoters’ claims, silver has no known function in the body and is not an essential mineral supplement. Colloidal silver products were once available as over-the-counter drug products, but in 1999, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ruled that these colloidal silver products were not considered safe or effective. Colloidal silver products marketed for medical purposes or promoted for unproven uses are now considered “misbranded” under the law without appropriate FDA approval as a new drug. There are currently no FDA-approved over-the-counter or prescription drugs containing silver that are taken by mouth. However, there are still colloidal silver products being sold as homeopathic remedies and dietary supplements.”

Ok, so we now know what colloidal silver is and what the FDA thinks about it.

But…

Is the FDA right? Find out yourself by doing your own research.

Disclaimer: Prepare to Bug In (prepare2bugin.com) is not advocating that individuals should or should not use colloidal silver. We are not in the medical profession. Therefore, we suggest you do your own research and make your own decisions. Just because we use colloidal silver does not mean that you or your family should.

Colloidal silver has many different names. Just look at this short list: Argent Colloïdal, Argent Ionique, Argent Natif, Argentum Metallicum, Colloidal Silver Protein, Ionic Silver, Native Silver, Plata Coloidal, Protéine d’Argent, Silver, Silver Alginate, Silver in Suspending Agent, Silver Protein, Tetrasilver Tetroxide, Tétroxyde de Tétra-Argent. What About Nano Silver?

Although I do not have anything specific to offer as to whether nano silver is the same as colloidal silver, I read one article discussing whether nano silver was effective in the treatment of ebola (Using nano silver to treat Ebola – is it misguided, September 9, 2014 by Andrew Maynard at the Risk Science Center). In the article he explained,

Colloidal nano silver – nanometer-sized silver particles suspended in water – has been used by people to self-medicate innumerable conditions for around a century now. Although there is no clear evidence that it has beneficial health effect at low concentrations, it can cause the disease argyria at high concentrations.

My thought at the time was if you take nano out of colloidal nano silver, what do you have left, hmmm?

According to www.nano-silver.com/,

Nano-Silver is pure de-ionized water with silver (Ag) in suspension. Approximately 80% of the silver is in the form of metallic silver nano-particles. The remaining silver is in ionic form. Though similar to colloidal silver, generally, a colloid is a suspension of particles of from 10 nm to 1 micron in diameter and the silver particles in Nano-Silver are less than 2 nm in diameter and therefore too small to be considered in “colloidal” suspension. They are rather, in a “nano-suspension,” a much more stable state.

Colloidal Silver and Benefits

While the FDA does not consider colloidal silver products to be safe or effective, people that prepare to bug in oftentimes keep nano silver in their First Aid Kits. As a matter of fact, Prepare to Bug In keeps a bottle of ASAP™ Silver Solution, as well as a tube of ASAP™ Silver Gel in our kit as part of our bug-in first aid.

I have read many reviews on the benefits of colloidal silver, and the people that write the reviews have many uses for it. I cannot say that they actually work for the claims they make, but I will list them here so you can do your own research:

Nasal congestion relief
Stomach upset relief
Flu relief
Weight loss
Burn Relief
Pain Relief

The above is just the tip of the iceberg. There are many claims made where people have gotten better from using colloidal and/or nano silver. The Prepper Journal (www.theprepperjournal.com) has two excellent articles on Colloidal Silver in Emergency Preparedness that makes good reading. The easiest way to find the articles is to search colloidal silver on his site.

I hope I have opened up your eyes on the subject of what is colloidal silver and what are its benefits. There are many pros and cons that have been discussed in detail on the Internet. Why not take this opportunity and take some time to read up on it. Then check with your doctor and see if it’s the right dietary supplement for you or your family members. Remember, to be prepared is to survive!
